The situation has been exacerbated by the couple’s public and often controversial approach to their departure from the British royal family. 

Prince Harry’s memoir announcement and Meghan’s various media appearances have only heightened frustration among locals. Many residents feel that the couple’s ongoing grievances against the royal family have tarnished the peaceful reputation of Montecito.

Billionaire Peter Sperling and actor Rob Lowe are among those who have cited the disruptive factor of the royal couple’s presence as a reason for their departure.

While Meghan and Harry continue to navigate their new life in America, their relationship with their Montecito neighbors remains strained. Initial curiosity and excitement within the community have given way to frustration and resentment as the couple’s demands and behavior clash with the laid-back ethos of the area.
